Over 100 guests and federal, state, and local elected officials joined in the Corcoran Garage Art Banner Wrap Dedication and Ribbon Cutting event August 15, 2018, to herald the completion of the first major public art installation of the Durham SmART Initiative.  Durham Arts Council is proud to lead this major initiative with the North Carolina Arts Council, City of Durham and many local partners.

Celebratory remarks included City of Durham Mayor Steve Schewel and former Mayor, Bill Bell; North Carolina Arts Council Executive Director, Wayne Martin; Capitol Broadcasting Company CEO, Jim Goodmon; Senator Mike Woodard, immediate past President of Durham Arts Council; current DAC Board President, Dr. Constanza Gómez-Joines, and DAC Executive Director, Sherry DeVries.  Artist Olalekan (LEk) Jeyifous shared his inspiration and title of the banners:  “Durham in Continuum” followed by an Arts Parade to the Banner Ribbon Cutting, and After Party at Pour Taproom.
